On a hot, sunny afternoon in late May I was prowling the foothills of Golden, CO for some insect shots. On top of South Table Mountain I came across this hearty female Prairie Lizard near some boulders. I startled her while basking and she scurried ahead just a bit. I had my Raynox 250 close-up filter attached to my Olympus 60mm macro lens and I hurried to screw it off. While I was doing so I heard the the skitter of tiny claws across rock and then a crunch. I knew right away that she’d caught a Grasshopper, but was nervous that I’d be able to capture a good shot. Amazingly she let me get as close as I needed to as long as I didn’t make any abrupt movements.
