Yucca Weevil Insect Macro Photo

Weevils are to me the most bizarre looking of the Coleopterans, but in a way that makes me chuckle. It’s kind of like having a cartoon character living in my backyard. This one was extremely fidgety and difficult to focus stack. In particular, his antennae kept rotating around. He was still for a brief moment, which is when I was able to shoot this focus stack of 57 images. My intent was to then photograph his entire body, but he wouldn’t stand still again. This photo is 3:1 magnification FF equivalent, which was produced by adding the Raynox 250 macro filter to my Olympus 60mm macro lens. Yucca Weevil larvae feed on, if you haven’t figured it out, Yucca plants, which grow abundantly behind my house.
